I may be 22 but I’ve quickly mastered the art of the granny life.
Alright so I know you’re probably thinking-“you’re young, go out and live!!!” or “Quit being lame, J!” First off, let’s make clear that I’ve been lame for a long time so there’s changing that. Second of all, it’s not that I never like to go out and have fun. Trust me, I do. But 70% of the time I’m going to chose to have a night in rather than go out. Here’s why:
Being a twenty something is expensive.
I just graduated from college and like most college grads, I have an adult entry level job. Which is great that I was one of the lucky ones to get a job right out of school! But most entry level jobs aren’t going to make you rich. So it’s adulting but still actually living like a broke college student. (It’s fabulous, really). Therefore I don’t have the funds to go out and do fancy adult things. I don’t even know how to be fancy, if I'm being honest.
I’m tired. Like all the time.
This is the BIGGEST reason I am I granny. I thought I was tried before, but adult life exhaustion has nothing on college exhaustion. Dr. Pepper used to be my caffeine boost but I honestly think I’ve become immune to that. I don’t like energy drinks, and the taste of coffee is just horrible to me. So no hope there. If there’s any chance in my day to take a nap...you betcha I’m going to jump on it.
My dogs are cooler than humans.
Sometimes I can be a huge introvert. And ten times out of ten I’m going to pick my dogs over human interaction. End of story.
Yeah okay so I never have time in my week to watch tv. I either go to my 8-5 job, come home and make dinner, catch up on laundry and dishes, and all the other things I like to avoid doing...OR I go to my 8-5 job and then go straight to teach dance a couple nights a week. So when it comes to the weekends, I need to catch up on what I’ve missed on Big Brother. Or I just like to watch The Office for the 50th time and quote it word for word. (Please don’t judge me)
I can’t keep up like I used to.
In college-I could easily go to school for my 8am (most days), go to work, study, go out and stay up til 3am then do it all again the next day. I was like super human. I did all that and still somehow managed to find time to have a healthy lifestyle. How? No idea but it was fantastic. Also, I’m usually good for like 2 or 3 beers or a glass of wine before I get sleepy.
Going out requires pants.
I don’t really like pants. And I don’t have to wear pants in the comfort of my own home. You do the math.
Just the other day, someone asked me what my hobbies were. My response: “I like to take naps and hang out with my dogs.”
Honestly I’ve never felt more lame in my life but hey that’s okay. I enjoy this lame granny life style I have chosen. Because even though the majority of the time I’m going to chose to stay in and take a nap with my dogs, every once and awhile I’ll splurge.
Because life is too short to be boring 24/7, make some time to hang out with your friends and have a good time once and a while. Even if that means y’all just stay in, do some face masks, eat a bunch of junk food and watch sappy movies. You do you. Just remember it’s okay to put your fancy pants on (or any pants at all if you’re like me) and break free from the granny life every once and awhile.
I hope you all have a fab day, I’m probably going to go take a nap now.
